How to calculate the quantity of balls needed to make your pattern?
To calculate the number of balls of an equivalent yarn, but with a different yardage, you must multiply the total yardage of the pattern and divide by the yardage of the new ball.
Example:
If you need 10 balls of lambswool (134m) 10x134m = 1340 m, I want to knit phil cotton 3 (121m), then I must divide 1340 m by 121 m = 11.07, or 12 balls.
So 10 balls of lambswool = 12 balls of phil cotton 3 for the pattern to knit.
