Origin and Care Tips
Mohair comes from the fleece of the Angora goat of Asia Minor. It is characterised by its thermal insulating properties (warmth in winter and coolness when summers are humid) combined with its great lightness. Mohair looks, feels, and shines like silk, without the flexibility of traditional wool. The annual global production is about 20,000 tonnes.
Pamper Your Knits!
As a natural material, mohair is nonetheless a durable and easy-to-care-for wool. Mohair fibres tend to return to their original curly form, which is what gives it its unique fluffiness. A few simple steps are enough to care for mohair wool. Wash the wool cold (below 30°C) with a mild "wool-special" detergent, gently wring the knit without twisting or rubbing. Washing can be done by hand or in a machine, provided your machine has a "wool" or "delicate fabric" programme. Dry flat, on a terry towel, away from any heat source and light. Avoid tumble drying and ironing at all costs.
